David Latini is a clinical health psychologist whose work concentrates on cancer survivorship and symptom management for persons living with genitourinary cancer. He also has an interest in the psychosocial impact of the impact of cancer, particularly fear of cancer recurrence. He completed a PhD in educational psychology at Stanford University, a respecialization diploma in clinical psychology at California School of Professional Psychology, and sex therapy training at the University of Michigan. An important aspect of Dr. Latini’s work is the focus on understanding how to improve cancer outcomes for underserved groups, particularly people with low health literacy. He recently completed a randomized controlled trial of a symptom management patient education program for low literacy men treated for localized prostate cancer. He has also examined the impact of the surveillance process on men with prostate cancer selecting surveillance and differences in quality of life for gay men with prostate cancer. Dr. Latini and his colleagues have been conducting qualitative and quantitative studies of quality of life of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer survivors. Dr. Latini is an assistant professor of urology at Baylor College of Medicine and evaluates health professions education programs for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
