Health literacy lines of communication (#5)
Health literacy, the ability to make informed decisions about health using available information, is an important predictor of outcomes in cancer treatment. We present an overview of health literacy and methods for presenting information to patients, survivors, and their family in ways that can be more easily understood. We offer specific examples from the methods for developing materials for an intervention to manage post-treatment symptoms in men treated for early-stage prostate cancer and results from a randomized controlled trial of the newly developed intervention.
