Dr Peter Fong is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Auckland City Hospital. He is also an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland. He is a graduate of Queensland University. He completed his Medical Oncology training at Auckland Hospital in 2003 before taking up a locum consultant job there.
Subsequently he embarked on a clinical fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital Drug Development Unit in the conduct of numerous Phase I studies. He also worked at the Institute of Cancer Research, the CRUK Centre for Cancer Therapeutics in translational research into epigenetic targeting drugs. Prior to returning to New Zealand at the end of 2008, he was working at the Prostate Drug Development Unit with Professor Johann de Bono.
Back at Auckland Hospital, he is the Team Lead in Genitourinary Medical Oncology. His other major interests are in Gynaecological Cancer and Phase I trials. He is a member of the ANZUP and ANZGOG scientific advisory committee. He has a keen interest in the medical oncologist’s role in the treatment of castrate resistant prostate cancer.
